Our last meeting took place on Tuesday, July 19th. It focused on planning for the remaining months of this year and for 2012. A summary of the plans under discussion follows:
PETITION FOR STREET SIGN
Signage is one tool for controlling activity at a location. It informs everyone and provides the police with a readily available reason to focus on cars that might be sources of problems.
We want to see more effective use of the many sign options that are available for use in a community. We would like city employees to identify and implement these options. The alderman must take action to request this service.
SAFETY
We must all participate in creating a safer environment. We can’t wait until the gunshot comes through our living room window before we can find time to get involved.
Residents have justifiable concerns with discussing safety issues in an open forum. The Alderman is supposed to provide a means of giving anonymous reports.
The next Police Board meeting is Thursday, July 21, 2011, 7:30pm, 3510 S. Michigan
CANA plans to make presentation of our interests and expectations. We need to make a strong showing.
MARCH 2, 2011 REQUEST FOR MEETING WITH ALDERMAN
Discussion was focused on trying to determine a reason for the lack of response from alderman. Several approaches were discussed. An agreement was not reached.
BIKE RIDING CLUB
Bringing residents together, while engaging in healthy activity, is part of our mission. We explored interest in a group bike riding club. A meeting will be held in the future of all who signed up.
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
We can all work on bringing information and resources to our community. The group was charged with collecting information on funding sources for projects of interest for next year. Bring names, phone numbers, websites, mailing addresses about potential sources to August meeting. We can then begin the process of filling out applications and submitting them before the deadlines.
