BEING OVER 40 IS QUITE WONDERFUL, THE MONTHLY MEETING

Our November meeting was held on Tuesday, November 16th at 6:30PM. Once again more than 41 business owners, renters, building owners, homeowners, youth, seniors, and church members came together to work for change in our community. There were 20 who had come for the first time to meet with us. Our message is reaching and touching people throughout the Austin community and beyond.

The Neighborhood Safety Committee reported on their activities. Eight members of CANA attended the October Police Board meeting to make presentations on the issues and concerns in our area. The President of the Police Board commended CANA for the manner and content of its presentation. You can read an earlier post for more details about that event.

Since that event, residents have commented on the changes they have seen in our area. The police have been more visible on the streets. The police have been actively policing the commercial and residential areas which has led to less loitering and nuisance activity.

We must not stop with voicing our concerns once. Our goal is to keep our concerns at the top of the list and in front of senior police management.  We must attend the next Police Board meeting on Thursday, November 18, 2010.

In discussing plans for 2011, members were invited by Pastor Brian Covell, pastor of Third Unitarian Churh,  to consider adding a 5k walk/run event to our growing calendar. Third Unitarian Church is a long standing supporter of the Austin community.

We’re changing our format for December. We want to invite the whole family, including the children to come celebrate the season with us. Our December meeting will be held on Saturday, December 11th at 5:00PM at Third Unitarian Church.

5:00PM           Caroling.

  • We will sing carols and stroll throughout the surrounding neighborhood
  • You don’t need a good voice, just a good spirit.

6:30PM           Pot Luck Dinner

  • We will share refreshments provided by any who wish to bring something to share. There will be enough for all who come.

If you haven’t met the wonderful people who make up CANA, this is a great time to do so. We hope to see and hear you soon.
